Fake bank calls: how to recognize them
Updated: June 2026
Scammers often impersonate banks and use caller ID spoofing so the call appears to come from a genuine bank number. The Bank of Latvia warns: never trust caller ID alone.
Warning signs
- Pressure to act fast and threats to block your account.
- Requests for your card details, passwords, or Smart-ID codes.
- Urging you to transfer money to a “safe” account.
What to do
Hang up and call your bank on the number printed on your card or listed on the bank's website. Never share your login credentials over the phone.
