Scam phone numbers in Latvia 2026

In 2025, scammers in Latvia stole a record €23.7 million, and phone fraud accounts for the majority of cases. This page rounds up the most common scam tactics and the dangerous numbers flagged by users. If you receive a suspicious call, do not share any personal information.

Fake bank and Smart-ID calls

A “bank employee” warns you about a suspicious transaction and asks you to approve a Smart-ID request or enter your codes. A real bank never asks for this over the phone.

Utility company scammers

Calls impersonating Latvenergo, Elektrum, Enefit, or Sadales tīkls (meter inspection or replacement) designed to trick you out of your data or money.

Shock calls

“A relative has been in an accident” and money is needed urgently. Always verify by contacting the relative directly.

The “2 or 6” rule

A genuine Latvian number starts with 2 (mobile) or 6 (landline). A +371 number that does not start with 2 or 6 is often spoofed.
